Abstract
Overview
ISO 8716:2001 specifies dynamic strength test conditions and requirements for 50 and 90 fifth wheel kingpins used on road vehicles. The standard defines how kingpins shall be mounted and tested on a dedicated test rig, how the comparative D value is determined from vehicle and trailer masses, and the acceptance criteria for resistance under cyclic horizontal loading. The objective is to verify durability, operational safety and interchangeability of kingpins for heavy trailers and semi-trailers.
