1.1 This part of ISO 9327 applies to forgings and rolled or forged bars in thicknesses up to 250 mm (partly up to 500 mm) manufactured from the steels listed in Table 1 and to be delivered according to the specifications given in ISO 9327-1. 1.2 This part of ISO 9327 covers the following data: a) in Table 1 the limits for the chemical composition according to the cast analysis; the tensile properties at room temperature; the impact properties; the indications on the usual heat treatment condition at the time of delivery; b) in Table 2 the permissible product analysis tolerances on the limiting values given for the cast analysis; c) in Table 3 the minimum elevated temperature proof strength values (see C.4 of ISO 9327-1:1998); d) in Table 4 the estimated average stress rupture properties; e) in Table 5 the estimated average strength values for 1 % plastic strain.
Abstract
Overview
ISO 9327-2:1999 - "Steel forgings and rolled or forged bars for pressure purposes - Technical delivery conditions - Part 2" defines delivery requirements for non‑alloy and alloy (Mo, Cr and CrMo) steels with specified elevated temperature properties. The standard applies to forgings and rolled/forged bars in thicknesses up to 250 mm (in some cases up to 500 mm) and works in conjunction with ISO 9327‑1 (general requirements). ISO 9327‑2 provides the material data and test/property limits needed when steels are intended for pressure equipment operating at elevated temperatures.
Key topics and requirements
- Material scope: Non‑alloy and alloy steels containing Mo, Cr and CrMo suitable for pressure purposes.
- Tables of delivery data: Includes Tables 1–5 that specify:
- Chemical composition limits (cast analysis)
- Tensile properties at room temperature
- Impact (Charpy) properties
- Usual heat‑treatment designation at delivery (A, N, Q, T)
- Permissible product analysis tolerances
- Minimum elevated‑temperature 0.2% proof strength (Rp0.2)
- Estimated average stress‑rupture properties
- Estimated average strength for 1% plastic strain
- Testing and conformity: References ISO 9327‑1 for ordering, inspection, testing frequency and conformity assessment. Normative references include standards such as ISO 148 (Charpy impact test).
- Marking and documentation: Marking, test reports and delivery conditions are governed by the general part ISO 9327‑1.
Practical applications
ISO 9327‑2 is used when specifying steel forgings or bars for pressure equipment and components where material behavior at elevated temperatures is critical. Typical applications include:
- Pressure vessels, boilers and heat‑exchangers
- High‑temperature piping and fittings in power generation and petrochemical plants
- Components for oil & gas and industrial process equipment Users who benefit from this standard:
- Material specifiers and purchasing engineers
- Steel manufacturers and forging producers
- Pressure equipment designers and fabricators
- Inspection bodies and quality assurance teams
Related standards

- Other parts of ISO 9327 covering nickel steels, fine‑grain steels, stainless steels (Parts 3–5)
- Normative and related documents cited (e.g., ISO 148, EN 10028‑2) are referenced for testing and classification
Use ISO 9327‑2:1999 when you need standardized, traceable delivery conditions and elevated‑temperature mechanical property requirements for Mo/Cr/CrMo steels intended for pressure service. Keywords: ISO 9327‑2, steel forgings, rolled bars, elevated temperature properties, proof strength, stress rupture, technical delivery conditions.
