Specifies rules for the identification. Applies in particular to valves which will be developed in future with two and three ports, where today's practice of marking valve ports is different. The identification rules apply to those ports which provide the connection between two valves or between a valve and a pipe.
Abstract
Overview
ISO 9461:1992 defines standardized rules for the identification of valve ports, subplates, control devices and solenoids used in hydraulic fluid power systems. The standard targets consistent marking practices so valves and subplates can be assembled and connected correctly, reducing installation errors and improving system interoperability and maintenance.
The standard complements existing surface-mounting standards (for example ISO 4401, ISO 5781, ISO 6263 and ISO 6264) and is intended as a recommended practice for new and evolving valve designs, particularly two-, three- and four-port valves.
Key Topics
- Scope and intent: Identification rules apply to ports that connect valves to other valves or to pipes. Subplate port markings must reflect the actual function of the mounted valve.
- In-line vs subplate-mounted valves: For in-line valves an arrow may replace letter marking to indicate flow direction when unambiguous. For subplate-mounted valves, the valve port function shall match the subplate marking.
- Main-port identifiers:
- P - inlet (normal inlet port)
- A, B - working (outlet) ports
- T - return-to-tank (return) port
- For two-port valves, P = inlet and T = outlet in pressure-relief types where applicable.
- Pilot and auxiliary ports:
- X, Y - pressure pilot ports (used for remote control or pilot supply/return). X is typically reserved for supply to pilot stage or the control-device port.
- V - pilot ports operating by venting to a lower pressure (lower-pressure pilot)
- L - drain port (returns leakage or nozzle flows to tank)
- M - take-off-point port (sampling of operating fluid)
- Solenoid identification: Solenoids for main or pilot stages shall use the same identification as the corresponding main ports, facilitating correct electrical-mechanical integration.
- Compliance statement: ISO 9461:1992 provides a recommended identification statement for use in documentation and catalogs when electing to comply with the standard.
Applications
- Ensures safe and correct assembly of hydraulic valves and subplates in mobile and industrial hydraulic circuits.
- Simplifies maintenance, troubleshooting and documentation by standardizing port labeling.
- Supports interoperability between components from different manufacturers by providing common marking conventions.
