ISO 9927-3:2019 specifies the regular inspection regime for tower cranes to ensure safe operation and detect deviations from safe working conditions. It covers the types of inspections, their content, minimum periodicity, reporting and required records. The document does not cover inspection prior to first use and is intended to be used alongside ISO 9927‑1. Manufacturer instructions that differ from ISO 9927‑3 remain applicable.

- Exceptional inspections - triggered by specific events (outlined in Clause 9).
- Competence and records: inspections must be done by appropriately competent people (operator, experienced technician, expert engineer per ISO 9927‑1). Reports - operator’s log, maintenance and inspection record books - must be updated and retained.
- Reporting: Periodic and thorough inspections require documented reports listing components inspected and remaining defects; examples and report templates are provided in the standard’s annexes.
