ABSTRACT This specification covers alloys UNS N06002, UNS N06230, UNS N12160, and UNS R30556 in the form of rolled plate, sheet, and strip for heat-resisting and general corrosive service. The material shall conform to the required chemical composition for nickel, iron, chromium, cobalt, molybdenum, tungsten, carbon, silicon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, columbium, tantalum, aluminum, zirconium, lanthanum, nitrogen, boron, and titanium. The alloy shall conform to specific mechanical requirements such as tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation. Annealed alloys UNS N06002, UNS N06230, and UNS R30556 sheet and strip shall conform to the grain size requirements. SCOPE 1.1 This specification2 covers alloys in the form of rolled plate, sheet, and strip that are typically used for (though not limited) heat-resisting and general corrosive service. 1.2 Alloys that can currently be certified to this specification are UNS N06002, UNS N06230, UNS N12160, and UNS R30556. 1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard. 1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to become familiar with all hazards including those identified in the appropriate Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for this product/material as provided by the manufacturer, to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices, and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. 1.5 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
Abstract
Overview
ASTM B435-22 is the standard specification developed by ASTM International for heat and corrosion resistant high temperature alloy plate, sheet, and strip. This standard addresses the requirements for the supply of rolled products in alloys UNS N06002, UNS N06230, UNS N12160, and UNS R30556. Intended primarily for applications requiring excellent heat resistance and general corrosion protection, ASTM B435-22 establishes the criteria for chemical composition, mechanical properties, and product dimensions. This internationally recognized standard supports industry needs for reliable, high-performance materials in demanding environments.
Key Topics
Material Types and Forms
- Specifies rolled products: plate, sheet, and strip.
- Covers both hot- and cold-rolled material, supplied in annealed and descaled or bright finish conditions.
Chemical Composition Requirements
- Materials must meet strict chemical requirements for elements such as nickel, chromium, iron, cobalt, molybdenum, tungsten, carbon, silicon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, columbium, tantalum, aluminum, zirconium, lanthanum, nitrogen, boron, and titanium.
Mechanical Properties
- Requirements for tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation are clearly defined for each alloy.
- Specific grain size requirements for annealed sheet and strip.
Dimensional and Quality Criteria
- Details on thickness, width, and length tolerances.
- Flatness, straightness, and squareness specifications.
- Mandatory marking of material with specification, alloy, heat number, manufacturer, and relevant data.
Documentation and Certification
- Outlines requirements for certification, test reports, and product analysis to assure compliance.
- Refers to safety, health, and environmental practice considerations, emphasizing the user’s responsibility to consult Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
Applications
Heat-Resistant and Corrosive Environments
- Suitable for manufacturing components in heat treating equipment, chemical processing, and furnace parts, where high-temperature stability and corrosion resistance are critical.
- Frequently used in the aerospace, petrochemical, and power generation industries for their robust mechanical and chemical stability.
Industrial Fabrication
- Employed in the production of flat-rolled alloys for gaskets, heat exchangers, combustion chambers, and pressure vessels.
- Ideal when designers and engineers require reliability in service temperatures and resistance to aggressive atmospheres.
Quality Assurance and Traceability
- Enables manufacturers and end-users to specify, procure, and certify materials with consistent properties.
- Supports regulatory compliance and safety assurance in critical infrastructure projects.
