Overview

IEC 61300-3-34:2009 - Fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive components - Basic test and measurement procedures - Part 3-34: Examinations and measurements - Attenuation of random mated connectors - specifies a standardized procedure to measure the statistical distribution and mean attenuation of randomly mated optical connectors. The standard defines two measurement methods (Method 1 and Method 2), required apparatus, launch conditions and precautions to obtain reproducible insertion-loss data for both multimode and singlemode connector assemblies. The 2009 edition revises launch-condition guidance for multimode fibres.
