Overview
IEC 61747-2-2:2014 is an IEC blank detail specification (BDS) for matrix colour LCD modules. It provides a template and mandatory minimum content for publishing detail specifications used in testing, qualification and product documentation. The standard ensures consistent style, layout and test-related content whenever a detail specification (e.g., for a standard product) is issued.
Key topics and requirements
- Blank detail specification (BDS): a formatted template and front‑page layout guidance for national or customer detail specifications.
- Scope & editorial changes: Edition 2.0 (2014) was updated to follow ISO/IEC Directives - added scope, rearranged numbering, added table titles, introduced Annex A (informative) and removed an IECQ reference. Several words and test conditions were added in Clauses 7 and 8.
- Marking and ordering information: minimum ordering data (type reference, detail specification reference, assessed quality category, screening sequence if required).
- Limiting values (absolute maximum ratings): template Table 1 for temperatures, supply voltages, input signal voltage, backlight and soldering temperature - with placeholders for values to be specified in each detail specification.
- Recommended operating range and electrical/optical characteristics: templates for Tables 2 and 3 describing operating temperature range, supply voltage ranges, and required electrical/optical characteristics to be defined by the detail specification author.
- Test conditions and inspection requirements: Clause 8 provides required test conditions and inspection criteria; includes lot-by-lot and periodic test groupings (Tables 4–6).
- Qualification approval tests: group D tests for product qualification and endurance.
- Annex A (informative): additional information items that detail what may be included in a published detail specification.
Applications and who uses it
IEC 61747-2-2 is used by:
- LCD manufacturers creating product detail specifications and test documentation for matrix colour LCD modules.
- Quality, test and qualification engineers who implement inspection and endurance testing based on a standardized BDS.
- Procurement and component specifiers who require clear ordering information and comparison data.
- National Authorized Institutions (NAI) and standards editors adopting or publishing national detail specifications.
- Test laboratories that carry out acceptance and periodic tests referenced by the detail specification.
