IEC 62243:2012(E) defines formal specifications for supporting system diagnosis. These specifications support the exchange and processing of diagnostic information and the control of diagnostic processes. Diagnostic processes include, but are not limited to, testability analysis, diagnosability assessment, diagnostic reasoning, maintenance support, and diagnostic maturation.

Overview
IEC 62243:2012 (AI‑ESTATE) - also published as IEEE Std 1232‑2010 - defines formal specifications for exchanging diagnostic knowledge and controlling diagnostic reasoners in test and maintenance environments. The standard provides information models, an interchange format, and software services to support system diagnosis activities such as testability analysis, diagnosability assessment, diagnostic reasoning, maintenance support, and diagnostic maturation.
