IEC 62766-5-2:2017(E) specifies a profile of HTML5, CSS and other related web technologies for connected TVs. Its goal is to describe a common profile that can be relied on by content and service providers and implemented by manufacturers. It does not describe extensions or modification to any of the referenced technologies but only tries to define a subset of web standards that are suitable and useful for TV deployments and at the same time stable enough to provide a good degree of confidence that real interoperability can be achieved. It may add clarifications and/or additional constraints where these are needed due to the nature of the target deployment environment.

Overview
IEC 62766-5-2:2017 - Web standards TV profile defines a common, interoperable profile of web technologies (HTML5, CSS and selected Web APIs) specifically tailored for connected TV and IPTV consumer terminals. Rather than extending or modifying core web standards, it selects a stable subset and - where needed for the TV environment - adds clarifications or constraints so content and service providers can reliably target TV devices and manufacturers can implement consistent behavior.

- XMLHttpRequest, WebSocket (RFC 6455), Web Storage and Web Workers

- Media and responsive behavior: References media queries, media fragments and other mechanisms to adapt content and media playback to TV screens and remote-control navigation.
- Device constraints and clarifications: Adds TV-specific guidance (layout, fonts, device adaptation, remote control keycodes) and minimum device requirements such as memory usage guidance and virtual keycode mappings.
- Interoperability emphasis: The profile is intentionally a conservative subset designed for stability so real-world interoperability between service/content providers and multiple TV manufacturers can be achieved.
