Overview
ISO 10350-1:2025 - Plastics - Acquisition and presentation of comparable single-point data - Part 1: Moulding materials is the fourth edition of the ISO guidance for producing comparable single-point property data for moulding plastics. The standard defines test procedures, specimen preparation and conditioning, and a consistent format for presenting single-value material properties for thermoplastic and thermosetting moulding materials (injection- or compression-moulded or sheet-formed). ISO 10350-1:2025 replaces the 2017 edition and includes editorial and technical clarifications to improve comparability across suppliers and laboratories.
Key topics and requirements
- Scope and applicability: Applies to unreinforced and reinforced moulding materials that can be injection- or compression-moulded or produced as specified sheets.
- Specimen preparation: Refers to established moulding and machining standards (e.g., ISO 294 series, ISO 293, ISO 295, ISO 2818). When material-specific moulding conditions exist in other International Standards, those shall be used.
- Conditioning: Specifies conditioning for dry and 50% RH / 23 °C equilibrium states where water absorption affects properties. Provides exceptions (e.g., rheological and thermal properties specified dry only).
- Test requirements and presentation: Test methods, conditions and units are set out (see the standard’s Table 2). Results must be presented in a standardized format with identification of material, moulding parameters, conditioning state and minimum specimen counts.
- Harmonization and updates: The 2025 edition clarifies specimen type designations (ISO 20753), harmonizes symbols with ISO 527-1, corrects axis formulae and updates impact property naming.
Practical applications and users
ISO 10350-1:2025 is intended for:
- Materials engineers and formulators comparing intrinsic properties across grades.
- Test laboratories standardizing specimen preparation, conditioning and reporting.
- Product designers and specifiers who need reliable single-point data for preliminary material selection.
- Purchasing and quality teams that require consistent data sheets from multiple suppliers.
- Manufacturers of injection- or compression-moulded components ensuring data comparability for design decisions.
Using ISO 10350-1:2025 helps reduce ambiguity in manufacturer data sheets, speeds up initial material screening, and improves traceability of test parameters (moulding temperatures, mould type, injection velocity, etc.).
