This document specifies the characteristics of homogeneous floor coverings, based on poly(vinyl chloride), supplied in either tile or roll form. Products can contain a transparent, non-PVC factory finish. To encourage the consumer to make an informed choice, this document also includes a classification system (see ISO 10874) based on intensity of use, which shows where these floor coverings give satisfactory service. It also specifies requirements for marking.

Overview
ISO 10581:2019 specifies requirements for homogeneous poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) resilient floor coverings supplied in tile or roll form. The standard defines product identification by binder content, minimum performance characteristics (dimensional, mechanical and optical), a use-intensity classification (linked to ISO 10874), and mandatory marking/packaging information. Factory-applied transparent, non‑PVC finishes up to ~0.03 mm are permitted and are not counted as the wear layer.
