Instrumentation and frequency range

Instruments must meet ISO 2954 and ISO 10816‑1 requirements.
Typical broadband frequency range: 10 Hz to 1 000 Hz; for low‑speed pumps the lower limit is often 2 Hz.
For very high‑speed or diagnostic work, wider bandwidth (up to ~2.5× blade‑passing frequency) may be needed.

Measurement locations and directions

Vibration measured at bearing housings, normally in two orthogonal radial directions (horizontal/vertical) and where relevant an axial direction.
Locations should represent bearing housing motion without local resonance/amplification.

Evaluation and limits

Defines evaluation zones and limits for bearing housing vibration, and gives guidance for alarm and trip settings (see Annex C).
Distinguishes pumps by power ranges (notably up to and above 200 kW) for some evaluations.

Monitoring

Supports both periodic portable measurements and continuous online monitoring; continuous monitoring is recommended for safety‑critical pumps.

Annexes

Include numerical evaluation zone limits, guidance on shaft vibration for sleeve bearings, example alarm/trip setting, and considerations for support flexibility and orientation.

Applications

Acceptance testing at manufacturer or plant test facilities.

Condition monitoring and predictive maintenance programs.

Troubleshooting and diagnostics following vibration anomalies.

Defining alarm/trip thresholds and operational limits to protect pump systems and connected equipment.

Specifying vibration measurement protocols in procurement and contractual acceptance criteria.
