This document specifies fundamental requirements for uncut finished spectacle lenses. This document is not applicable to protective spectacle lenses. This document takes precedence over the corresponding requirements of other standards, if differences exist.

ISO 14889:2025 - "Ophthalmic optics - Spectacle lenses - Fundamental requirements for uncut finished lenses" sets out the core, high-level requirements for . It defines fundamental expectations for design, materials, performance and safety, and it explicitly excludes protective spectacle lenses. Where requirements differ from other standards, ISO 14889:2025 takes precedence.
