Overview
ISO 15212-1:1998 defines metrological and technical requirements for oscillation-type density meters - laboratory instruments used to measure the density of homogeneous fluids. The standard addresses the measuring principle, functional units, sensor materials and designs, required tests (type tests), adjustment and calibration methods, accuracy expectations, and documentation/marking. It is intended for manufacturers, testing and certification bodies, and users who perform instrument adjustment and calibration in laboratories.

Measuring principle and functional units Oscillation-type density meters use electrically or mechanically induced oscillations whose frequency (or period) depends on sample density. Adjustment and calibration ISO 15212-1 differentiates adjustment (setting instrument constants to achieve required performance) from calibration (establishing the relationship between reference densities and instrument readings without permanently modifying constants).
