ISO 16012:2015 specifies measuring equipment and procedures for the determination of the linear dimensions of rigid plastics test specimens. It is applicable to test specimens described in ISO 20753 but can also be used for other test specimens, and to thicknesses typically in the range 0,4 mm ≤ h ≤ 6,4 mm.
Abstract
Overview
ISO 16012:2015 - Plastics - Determination of linear dimensions of test specimens - specifies measuring equipment and procedures for determining the linear dimensions (thickness, width, length) of rigid plastics test specimens. It applies principally to specimens described in ISO 20753 and to specimen thicknesses typically in the range 0.4 mm ≤ h ≤ 6.4 mm. The standard covers contact and non-contact measurement methods and gives requirements for instrument selection, calibration and measurement procedure.
Key topics and technical requirements
- Measuring equipment: Micrometers, vernier callipers, dead-weight dial-gauge micrometers, electronic digital indicator gauges, and non-contact (optical/laser) devices. Instruments must meet relevant GPS/ISO metrological standards (e.g., ISO 3611, ISO 13385-1, ISO 13102).
- Measurement forces: Micrometers with preset load should apply between 5 N and 15 N; preferred measuring forces for dead-weight/electronic indicators are between 0.15 N and 3 N to reduce specimen compression.
- Accuracy: Required accuracy is specified by dimension range: for dimensions
