ISO 1920-8:2009 specifies a method for determining the length changes of concrete specimens due to drying in air, and the method of preparing and curing the concrete specimens to be tested.
Abstract
Overview
ISO 1920-8:2009 - Testing of concrete - Part 8: Determination of drying shrinkage of concrete for samples prepared in the field or in the laboratory describes a standardized method to measure drying shrinkage (length change) of concrete specimens. The standard covers specimen preparation, initial curing, controlled drying and precise length measurement to determine shrinkage of concrete made with aggregates up to 25 mm nominal size.
Key topics and technical requirements
- Scope and applicability
- Applies to specimens prepared in the laboratory or in the field (maximum aggregate size 25 mm).
- Field-prepared specimens must be identified and reported; precision statements for laboratory specimens do not apply to non‑standard field curing.
- Note on low‑slump concrete: method may be impractical for slumps
