This document specifies a method for the determination of the compression stress/strain characteristics of low-density flexible cellular materials up to 250 kg/m3. It also specifies a method for the calculation of the compression stress value of such materials.
Abstract
Overview
ISO 3386-1:2025 specifies a laboratory method to determine the compression stress–strain characteristics of low-density flexible cellular polymeric materials (foams) up to 250 kg/m³. The standard defines test-piece geometry, conditioning, apparatus requirements and a repeatable procedure that produces a compression stress/strain curve (CC) and a single-point compression stress value at 40% compression (CV40). This is the third edition and replaces the 1986 edition with updates to scope, terms and a schematic test procedure.
