ISO 35:2004 specifies a method for the determination of the mechanical stability of natural rubber latex concentrate. It is also applicable to prevulcanized natural rubber latex concentrate. The method is not necessarily suitable for latices or prevulcanized latex preserved with potassium hydroxide, latices from natural sources other than Hevea brasiliensis, or for compounded latex or artificial dispersions of rubber, and it is not applicable to synthetic rubber latices.
Abstract
Overview
ISO 35:2004 - Natural rubber latex concentrate - Determination of mechanical stability specifies a laboratory method to measure the mechanical stability of natural rubber latex concentrate (including prevulcanized concentrates). The test quantifies the time (in seconds) until visible flocculation occurs when a diluted latex sample is intensely stirred under defined conditions. The standard excludes some systems (for example latex preserved with potassium hydroxide, non‑Hevea sources, compounded or synthetic rubber latices).
Key topics and technical requirements
- Scope and exclusions: Applies to natural rubber latex concentrate (Hevea brasiliensis) and prevulcanized latex concentrate; not suitable for KOH‑preserved, non‑Hevea, compounded, artificial or synthetic latices.
- Sample prep: Dilute 100 g latex to 55.0 % ± 0.2 % total solids using the appropriate ammonia solution:
- 1.6% NH3 solution for alkalinity ≥ 0.30%,
- 0.6% NH3 solution for alkalinity
