Overview

ISO 4781:2022 - Building and civil engineering sealants - Determination of application life - specifies a standardized laboratory method to determine the application life (pot life / working time) of used in building and civil engineering. The test measures how long a mixed multi-part sealant remains extrudable under defined conditions before its extrudability falls below a predetermined limit (typically set by the supplier).

Test sequence: Initial screening at 30 min intervals (up to 180 min). Once an indicative value is found, perform finer measurements at 5 min intervals near the end of application life.
Results and reporting: Plot extruded mass vs. time; report application life in minutes, test temperature/pressure, batch reference, mix ratios and mass, and any deviations from ISO 4781.
