ISO 5697:1982

Overview

ISO 5697:1982 specifies standardized methods for determining the braking performance of agricultural and forestry vehicles. It covers procedures to measure the performance of service brakes (using measured deceleration or stopping distance) and parking brakes for:

• tractors and self‑propelled agricultural/forestry vehicles with maximum design speed > 6 km/h, and
• trailed vehicles (trailers, towed machines and implements) intended for use at speeds > 6 km/h.

The standard defines test sequences (cold, fade, recovery), required test conditions and reporting formats (Annex A for tractors/self‑propelled vehicles; Annex B for trailed vehicles).

  • Method based on measured deceleration (decelerometer data).
  • Method based on measured stopping distance (distance from brake application to full stop).
