This document specifies a method for determining the durability of the adhesive joints of carbon fibre reinforced plastics (CFRPs) and metal assemblies by a wedge rupture test using a double cantilever beam (DCB) specimen under specified environmental conditions. This method is intended for evaluating the safety and reliability of adhesives, primers, and surface treatments of the adherends.

Overview
ISO 8060:2024 specifies a laboratory method to characterize the durability of adhesive interfaces in bonded assemblies of carbon fibre reinforced plastics (CFRPs) and metals. The standard uses a wedge rupture test with a double cantilever beam (DCB) specimen under defined environmental conditioning to force crack propagation along CFRP/adhesive or metal/adhesive interfaces. Results are reported as a quantitative interfacial fracture energy (Gc), enabling evaluation of adhesives, primers and surface treatments for safety and reliability.
