This document specifies a half-duplex block transmission protocol featuring the special needs of a contactless environment and defines the activation and deactivation sequence of the protocol. ISO/IEC 14443-4:2018 defines the transmission protocol for contactless proximity cards and security devices. It specifies a half‑duplex block transmission protocol and the activation/deactivation sequences tailored to the constraints of a contactless environment. The standard applies to Type A and Type B proximity cards/objects and is intended to be used together with other parts of ISO/IEC 14443 (physical, RF interface and anticollision) and ISO/IEC 7816‑4 (APDU/application protocol mapping).
