Abstract
Overview
ISO/IEC 19566-6:2026, titled Information technologies - JPEG systems - Part 6: JPEG 360, is an international standard developed by ISO and IEC. It specifies the structuring, description, and metadata for omnidirectional and 360-degree image and motion content. JPEG 360 supports integration with existing JPEG compression standards such as , , and , enabling seamless handling of immersive 360° images and videos. The standard sets out to unify metadata practices, projection formats, and stereoscopic 360 viewing, addressing the complexity and interoperability issues associated with panoramic and spherical image files.
