This document specifies the metamodel that provides a facility to register administrative information and common semantics of models. This document does not specify the metamodel of models in a specific language, but provides a common core metamodel for the other parts of the ISO/IEC 19763 series, each of which specifies a metamodel for a registry that can register models of a specific type, such as ontologies, process models or information models, in a number of different languages.

Overview
ISO/IEC 19763-10:2023 - part of the Metamodel Framework for Interoperability (MFI) - specifies a Core Model and basic mapping metamodel to register administrative information and common semantics of models. It does not define language-specific metamodels; instead, it provides a common core used by other parts of ISO/IEC 19763 to register ontologies, process models, information models and similar artifacts in metadata registries. The Core Model is aligned with ISO/IEC 11179-3:2023 (Metadata Registries) so model instances are identifiable, registerable and manageable.

- Extended mapping facilities are provided by ISO/IEC 11179-3:2023 (Clause 11); this edition removes the separate Basic Mapping facility previously included.
- Conformance levels and labels
- Two conformance levels: Level 1 (Core Model Registry) and Level 2 (Core Model Registry with mapping).
- Implementations must publish an Implementation Conformance Statement (ICS) indicating claimed level.
