EN ISO 5263-2:2004 - Pulps: Laboratory wet disintegration, Part 2 specifies the apparatus and procedures for wet disintegration of mechanical pulps at 20 °C. It is a laboratory method used to separate interlaced fibres without significantly altering fibre structure and is intended for mechanical, semi‑chemical and chemo‑mechanical pulps that do not exhibit latency (or where latency has been removed). The procedure is also required when preparing samples for a number of other pulp test standards and for brightness measurements.

Test portion:
- Mass: (50 ± 5) g oven‑dry pulp per disintegration.
- For sheet samples: avoid cut edges and do not cut sheets before testing.
Water and temperature:
- Use standard water (ISO 14487) or the water quality specified for the downstream test.
- Disintegration temperature: (20 ± 5) °C (climatic exceptions permitted if reported).
Soaking times (recommended):
- Dry matter < 20 %: 0 min
- 20–60 %: 30 min
- 60 %: 4 h (max soaking 24 h)
Disintegration action:
- Add water to (2 500 ± 25) ml, set counter to zero and run for the specified number of revolutions. Recommended revolutions:
