Abstract

Overview

EN ISO 9333:2022 - Dentistry - Brazing materials specifies requirements and test methods for dental brazing materials used in metallic restorations. This third edition (adopted by CEN as EN ) updates and harmonizes previous requirements; from the scope. The standard targets material composition, performance (mechanical and corrosion), biocompatibility, labelling, and documentation for dental brazing alloys.

Biocompatibility: Requirements aligned with dental material safety expectations to reduce patient risk.
Mechanical performance: Tensile strength of brazed joints is specified and tested to verify joint reliability in prosthetic applications.
Corrosion resistance: Includes static immersion tests, visual and microscopic inspection, and analysis of corrosion-released elements. Corrosion requirements are harmonized with ISO 22674 and ISO 10271.
Melting range: Melting/solidification characteristics (melting range) must be determined; requirements harmonized with ISO 22674.
Sampling and specimen preparation: Procedures for casting, specimen preparation, surface treatment and conditioning for tensile and corrosion testing.
Test methods and reporting: Visual inspection, chemical analysis, tensile testing procedures, corrosion analysis and melting range measurement. A formal test report is required (new in this edition).
Instruction for Use (IFU), marking and labelling: IFU must include working temperature; labelling for working temperature is allowed as optional marking. Packaging and labelling requirements are specified.
