ISO 2909:2002 - Petroleum products - Calculation of viscosity index from kinematic viscosity - defines standard procedures to calculate the viscosity index (VI) of petroleum products and related materials (for example, lubricating oils) from measured kinematic viscosities at 40 °C and 100 °C. - Rounding and expression: report VI to the nearest whole number; if exactly halfway, round to the nearest even integer (e.g., 115.5 → 116).
- Precision: the VI calculation itself is exact; overall precision depends on the repeatability/reproducibility of the two kinematic viscosity measurements (precision guidance references ISO 3104 and precision tables in ISO 2909).
