EN ISO 10870:2012 - Water quality - Guidelines for the selection of sampling methods and devices for benthic macroinvertebrates in fresh waters - provides criteria for selecting sampling methods and devices used to evaluate benthic macroinvertebrate populations in rivers, canals, lakes and reservoirs. It gives guidance on the design, operation and performance characteristics of sampling equipment to support reliable measurement of taxonomic composition, abundance and diversity in freshwater biological monitoring. The standard is intended for macroinvertebrates (>0.5 mm) and is not suitable for meiofauna.
