This document specifies the equipment and procedures for determining the short-term water absorption of preformed pipe insulation by partial immersion in water. It is applicable to thermal insulating products. NOTE It is intended to simulate the water absorption caused by exposure to rain for 24 h during product installation. This document has been prepared for products used to insulate building equipment and industrial installations, but it can also be applied to products used in other areas.

Overview
EN ISO 12623:2022 - Thermal insulating products for building equipment and industrial installations - specifies a standardized partial immersion test to determine the short-term water absorption of preformed pipe insulation. Adopted by CEN as EN ISO 12623:2022, this method is intended to simulate water uptake from 24 h rain exposure during installation and applies to thermal insulating products used in buildings and industrial installations.

- Test specimens are taken without reducing original thickness; skins, facings and coatings are retained.
