Overview

EN ISO 13076:2019 - Paints and varnishes - Lighting and procedure for visual assessments of coatings specifies standardized lighting conditions and a repeatable procedure for the visual assessment of degraded areas, spots or other defects on or in coatings. It covers both natural and artificial daylight conditions for routine and arbitration inspections and clarifies what information to include in test reports. This standard does not apply to visual colour comparison (see ISO 3668).

  • Routine assessments may use natural or artificial daylight; arbitration assessments shall use precisely controlled artificial lighting.
  • Test panels may be inclined; defects are often most visible at the light/dark boundary produced by the lamp.
• Test report: Must reference ISO 13076:2019 and indicate whether assessment used natural or artificial lighting; if artificial, include the type of light source.
