It does not specify the requirement for the strong point from which the craft can tow other vessels. This standard is applicable to small craft with a hull length up to 24 m. Overview

EN ISO 15084:2018 (adoption of ISO 15084:2003) sets out requirements for strong points used for attaching anchor chains, cables and lines for anchoring, mooring and towing on small craft up to 24 m hull length. The standard covers design, strength assessment, installation and owner’s‑manual information for fittings such as bollards, cleats, samson posts, bow eyes, winches and capstans. It does not define anchor weights or chain/line lengths and does not set requirements for a strong point intended specifically to tow other vessels.

Matching strength: if stronger lines/chains are provided, the strong point must be at least 125% of the supplied line/chain breaking strength.
Breaking strength of a strong point need not exceed the load representing the craft’s fully loaded displacement mass.

Design category coefficients: values are provided for design categories A–D (ocean to sheltered waters) to adjust required strength.

Installation and materials:

Reinforcement of surrounding structure (doubling plates/washers) where required.
Corrosion‑resistant materials; UV stabilization for non‑metallic fittings and owner warnings on degradation.
Labelling where intended use is not self‑evident.

Owner’s manual requirements (normative Annex A):

Breaking strength data, cautions (e.g., tow at slow speed), responsibility statements and recommended limits (lines/chains generally not to exceed 80% of strong‑point breaking strength).

Synthetic rope guidance: informative material in Annex B on synthetic fibre rope strength.
