Specifies a test method for determinig the number of insoluble and visible particles including all impurties and foreign particles in cellulose acetate. A test portion is dissolved in a mixture of dichloromethane, methanol and dimethylphthalate. Counting of all visible particles with a diameter greater than 0,15 mm in a square area with a side length of 25 mm.

Include all visible particle types irrespective of color or opacity.
Perform two complete determinations and report the mean.

Result expression:

Insoluble-particle content expressed as number of particles per 100 g dry cellulose acetate (formula using counted particles and test portion mass is defined in the standard).

Precision (inter-laboratory reproducibility) is not provided; caution is advised before using this method in contractual disputes.
