EN ISO 18096:2022 (CEN-adopted) specifies a standardized test method for determining the maximum service temperature of preformed pipe insulation used in building equipment and industrial installations. It defines the equipment, specimen preparation, test procedure and result expression used to decide the highest temperature at which a thermal insulating product continues to perform within specified limits (dimensional stability, thermal/mechanical properties, appearance and safety hazards such as internal self‑heating).

Specimen requirements: dimensions, number and conditioning (reference to ISO 12628 and ISO 16544 for dimensional and conditioning methods).

Results & accuracy: thickness deformation versus time, additional observations (including internal self‑heating), and measurement accuracy aligned with ISO 5725‑2 guidance on repeatability and reproducibility.

Material‑specific annexes: normative modifications/additions for mineral wool, polyethylene foam (PEF), flexible elastomeric foam (FEF), and phenolic foam products.
