Overview
EN ISO 6808:2014 (ISO 6808:2014) is a CEN-adopted international specification for polymer-reinforced thermoplastics hoses and hose assemblies used for suction and low‑pressure discharge of petroleum liquids. It covers hoses intended for kerosene, heating oil, diesel fuel and lubricating oils in normal operating temperatures from −10 °C to +45 °C (storage allowed from −30 °C to +65 °C). This edition supersedes EN ISO 6808:2000 and consolidates construction, performance and testing requirements for two hose types.
Key topics and technical requirements
EN ISO 6808:2014 sets minimum acceptable requirements and test methods including:
- Classification - Definitions for the two hose types (Type 1 and Type 2) and associated hose sizes.
- Construction & materials - Requirements for polymeric tube, reinforcement and outer cover; provisions for electrical bonding.
- Dimensions & tolerances - Specified diameter and length tolerances for manufacturing and procurement.
- Hydrostatic performance - Pressure tests at standard laboratory temperature and at 45 °C to verify burst/working capability.
- Mechanical tests - Suction resistance, minimum bend and cold bend tests, reinforcement fracture procedures.
- Material properties - Tests for loss of mass on heating, tensile strength and elongation, fuel and oil resistance, and accelerated ageing.
- Hose assemblies - Requirements for couplings, methods of attachment, coupling security testing and electrical continuity/wall resistance.
- Quality & conformity - Frequency of testing, type tests, marking requirements and annexes for production and test procedures.
Applications and practical value
This standard is intended for applications that require robust, low‑pressure transfer of specific petroleum liquids but explicitly excludes automotive and aviation fuels and metered delivery. Typical practical uses include:
- Fuel oil transfer in heating systems and boilers
- Diesel fuel handling for stationary engines and equipment
- Kerosene and lubricant transfer at storage and service facilities
- Low‑pressure suction lines in fuel storage and distribution operations
Using EN ISO 6808:2014 helps ensure hoses and assemblies meet consistent performance, safety and compatibility expectations for those petroleum liquids.
Who uses this standard
- Hose and hose‑assembly manufacturers
- Product designers and material engineers
- Quality assurance and test laboratories
- Procurement/specification engineers for fuel handling systems
- Installers and maintenance teams responsible for fuel transfer equipment
- Regulators and conformity assessment bodies
