The method is applicable to fertilizers, dry only, which contain a large proportion of particles of diameters less than 0,5 mm. Its principle is pouring the fertilizer from a specified filling device into a specified measuring cylinder of known volume and weighing the contents of the cylinder. If the fertilizer has absorbed moisture during transport or storage, it is necessary to dry it in an environmental chamber.

Overview
EN ISO 7837:2000 specifies a laboratory method for determining the bulk density (loose) of fine‑grained fertilizers. The procedure applies to dry fertilizers composed predominantly of particles smaller than 0.5 mm. The test’s basic principle is to pour the fertilizer from a defined filling device into a measuring cylinder of known volume and determine the mass of the filled cylinder so that bulk density (mass per unit volume) can be calculated. If the sample has absorbed moisture during transport or storage, the material must be dried in an environmental chamber before testing.
