Absorbent pad (blotter): 7 layers of 100 mm × 100 mm blotter paper (smooth side up). Required properties include mass per unit area (139 ± 11 g/m²), liquid absorption capacity ≥ 480% (per NWSP 010.1), and mean first strike-through ≤ 2 s without a test specimen.

Apparatus: Strike-through tester with conductometric electrodes and electronic timer; delivery by 50 ml burette or 5 ml pipette. Annex B provides detailed apparatus figures.

Procedure controls: Conditioning, sampling, reagent quality (grade 3 water), instrument calibration/verification, and specific reporting items (including blotter paper identification and manufacturer) are mandated.

Scope limitation: Designed for comparison and QC of nonwoven coverstocks only - it does not replicate product usage.
