IEC 61023:2007 Specifies the minimum performance requirements, methods of testing and required test results of devices to indicate speed and distance - speed and distance measuring equipment (SDME) required by Regulation 192 of Chapter V of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), 1974, as amended. Is associated with IEC 60945 and based upon the requirements of IMO Resolution A.824MSC.96(72). This new edition takes into account changes to the IMO performance standards for SDME agreed in resolution MSC.96(72) in 2000.

Overview

IEC 61023:2007 - Third edition - specifies minimum performance requirements, methods of testing and required test results for marine Speed and Distance Measuring Equipment (SDME). Written for compliance with SOLAS Chapter V Regulation 19 and based on IMO Resolution MSC.96(72), this IEC standard is associated with IEC 60945 and updates SDME requirements (notably reduced minimum water-depth operation for ground-based systems and the addition of a serial interface).

- Distance run: ≤ 2% of distance run per hour or 0.2 nmi/h, whichever is greater.
- Output data transmission accuracy: same as digital speed requirement.

- Support for at least VBW and VLW sentences per IEC 61162-1 (serial digital interface).
- Contact-closure output option: one closure per 0.005 nmi; minimum closure/pulse width 50 ms.
