Overview
IEC 62769-101-2:2023 - Field Device Integration (FDI)® Part 101-2: Profiles - Foundation Fieldbus HSE - defines the FDI profile for IEC 61784‑1, CP 1/2 (FOUNDATION™ Fieldbus HSE). This third edition is a technical revision that standardizes how FDI servers, clients, gateways and toolchains represent, discover and communicate with Foundation Fieldbus HSE devices. It includes profile definitions, topology schemas, protocol capability files and method signatures needed to integrate HSE devices into FDI-based engineering and asset-management systems.
(Note: Foundation™ Fieldbus is a trade name of the Fieldbus Foundation; inclusion here is informational and not an IEC endorsement.)
Key topics and technical requirements
- Profile mapping for CP 1/2 (FOUNDATION™ HSE):
- Catalog profile entries, protocol support (Capability File / CFF), CommunicationProfile definitions and Profile device mapping.
- Information Model mapping:
- ProtocolType, DeviceType, FunctionalGroup and BlockType mappings to the FDI Information Model.
- Topology and discovery:
- Normative topology scan schema (Annex A) describing FoundationHSEAddress, ConnectionPoint and Network elements for device discovery and topology reports.
- Communication methods and services:
- Standardized method definitions for FDI Communication Servers and Gateways, including Connect, Disconnect, Transfer, GetPublishedData, SetAddress and associated arguments (Annex C informative).
- Transfer and service parameters:
- Transfer service parameters and expected behaviors (Annex B normative).
- Syntax and packaging conventions:
- Use of EDDL and XML conventions, and support for Common File Format (CFF) with updated content type (application/vnd.ff.cff).
- Normative references:
Practical applications and target users
- Device manufacturers creating Foundation Fieldbus HSE devices or device packages to ensure standardized FDI compatibility.
- FDI server and client implementers who need interoperable methods for device discovery, topology scanning and parameter transfer.
- System integrators and control engineers deploying HSE networks in process automation who require consistent device profiles and communication behavior.
- Gateway and protocol-conversion vendors implementing FDI-compliant interfaces between HSE and other industrial networks.
- Asset management and maintenance teams using FDI tools for lifecycle management, diagnostics and remote configuration.
