Overview
IEC TR 62453-51-60:2017 is a technical report that details the communication implementation for the common object model (COM) of the Field Device Tool (FDT) interface specification for the IEC 61784 CPF 6 profile (INTERBUS®). It provides integration guidance for incorporating INTERBUS technology into the COM-based FDT implementation (see IEC TR 62453-41) and specifies communication and service implementations based on IEC 62453‑306. This document does not contain or modify the core FDT specification itself.
Key topics and technical requirements
- COM-based integration: Guidance for implementing the common object model used by FDT clients and servers to enable vendor-independent tool integration.
- Bus category identification: Use of the busCategory attribute to identify the IEC 61784 CPF 6 protocol as defined in IEC 62453-306.
- Access to instance and device data: Requirements for IDtmParameter, IDtmSingleDeviceDataAccess and IDtmSingleInstanceDataAccess methods. Implementations shall provide access to parameters defined in IEC 62453‑306.
- Protocol-specific behavior: Notes on behavior peculiar to IEC 61784 CPF 6 (INTERBUS) to ensure interoperable implementations.
- Usage of general data types: Mapping and protocol-specific usage of FDT general data types (e.g., fdt:address, fdt:protocolId, fdt:deviceTypeId, fdt:manufacturerId, fdt:semanticId).
- Network management and communication data types: Schemas and data type definitions for network management, communication (FDTInterbusPCPCommunicationSchema), channel parameters and device identification.
- Device identification and topology: Data types and schemas for device type identification, topology scan results and scan identification, including reference to XSLT transformations and updated XML schemas.
- Schema updates: This edition updates schemas from previous editions (replaces IEC TR 62453-506).
Practical applications and who uses it
- Device manufacturers / DTM developers: Implement Device Type Managers (DTMs) that expose INTERBUS device data and parameters through FDT COM interfaces.
- Automation tool vendors / system integrators: Integrate INTERBUS devices into engineering and planning tools using the FDT common object model.
- Control system engineers (process industry): Achieve consistent device integration and engineering workflows across heterogeneous fieldbus systems.
- Validation & test teams: Verify that FDT components implement required data access and protocol-specific behaviors per IEC 62453‑306.
