Overview
IEC TS 62453-53-90:2025 - titled "Field Device Tool (FDT) Interface Specification - Part 53-90: Communication implementation for CLI and HTML – IEC 61784 CPF 9" - provides guidance for integrating HART® technology into the CLI- and HTML-based implementations of the FDT interface specification. The technical specification defines the communication and service implementations based on IEC 62453‑309 and explains how HART devices and networks are exposed to FDT environments. It does not replace or modify the FDT specification itself.
Keywords: IEC TS 62453-53-90:2025, FDT interface specification, HART integration, CLI and HTML communication, IEC 61784 CPF 9
Key Topics
- Communication implementation for CLI & HTML
Guidance for implementing HART communication services in command-line (CLI) and HTML interfaces used by FDT runtimes and DTMs.
- Datatype mapping and semantic info
Mapping of HART datatypes to FDT datatypes and use of SemanticInfo to describe signal semantics.
- Data exposure interfaces
Use of IDeviceData and IInstanceData interfaces to expose device, instance and process data to the FDT environment.
- Protocol-specific behaviour
Handling of burst mode, addressing, scanning, extended command numbers, timeouts, delayed responses and mixed HART topologies.
- Topology and gateway support
Rules for transparent gateways, nested communication through multiple gateways, WirelessHART and mixed-protocol topologies.
- Network & communication datatypes
Defined datatypes (e.g., HartConnectRequest, HartTransactionResponse, HartIOSignalInfo) for consistent network management and process-data exchange.
- Device identification & scanning
Datatypes and mappings for device scan information and device identity exposure to FDT.
Applications
- Integrating HART wired and WirelessHART field devices into FDT-based asset management, configuration and control systems.
- Implementing DTMs (Device Type Managers) and FDT runtimes that support CLI/HTML access for HART devices.
- Enabling consistent process-data mapping, device scanning, topology discovery and network management across heterogeneous HART deployments.
- Supporting system architectures that require gateway traversal, burst-mode data transfers, or mixed HART protocol topologies.
Keywords: HART integration, DTM development, process data mapping, topology discovery, asset management
