Scope and Applicability
- Applies exclusively to domestic foldaway beds, excluding camp beds, sofa beds, and guest beds.
- Tests to be conducted on beds fully assembled, following manufacturer instructions.
- For beds with adjustable components, testing at extreme adjustment positions is required.
Test Preparation
- Conditioning the bed prior to testing to achieve full material strength, including storage under controlled temperature (23 ± 2 °C) and humidity (50 ± 5%) for at least one week conforming to ISO 554.
- For glued components, a minimum of four weeks’ aging under normal conditions is recommended before testing.
Test Equipment Requirements
- Use of a 200 mm diameter rounded rigid load pad (patin de charge) with defined curvature to simulate applied forces accurately.
- Test mattress specifications: polyurethane foam slab, 100 mm thick, density ~30 kg/m³, hardness per ISO 2439, dimensions covering at least 800 x 800 mm without exceeding bed base width.
- Use of anti-slip stops on the floor surface to prevent bed movement during horizontal tests.
Test Methods
- Opening and Closing Force Measurement: Determining resistance forces during smooth bed operation with different mattress weights to assess ease of use and safety.
- Articulated Joint Durability: Repeatedly opening and closing the bed to evaluate joint resistance and mechanical wear after 100 and 10,000 cycles.
- Load Resistance and Durability Testing: Applying repeated vertical loads (1,000 N, 10,000 cycles) on critical points to assess structural integrity.
- Horizontal Force Resistance: Applying lateral loads to test bed stability and resistance to tipping or displacement.
- Unexpected Closure and Opening Tests: Assessing mechanisms against sudden movement forces to prevent injuries or accidental bed collapse.
- Anchorage Strength: Verifying the strength and stability of bed mounting points under sustained force.
Reporting Requirements Test reports must include bed descriptions, mattress weight range, test results, compliance affirmation with ISO 10131-1 safety requirements, any deviations from test methods, and testing laboratory details.
