ISO 10245-1:2021 - "Cranes - Limiting and indicating devices - Part 1: General" defines the general requirements for limiting and indicating devices fitted to cranes. It covers devices that restrict crane operation (limiters) and those that provide operational information (indicators) related to loads, motions, performance and environmental conditions. Design allows testing with overloads without permanent effect; where disconnection is required, facilities to reset/check are mandatory.
Anti-tampering measures (locking, double action) to prevent accidental setting changes.

Limiters and indicators covered: hoisting/ lowering limiters, derricking limiter, slewing limiter, telescoping limiter, travelling/traversing limiter, working space limiter, slack rope limiter, motion and performance limiters.

Data recording: Event recorder and data logger requirements are included consistent with Parts 2–5; these record crane condition and control information.

Support requirements: Inspection, maintenance, operator training and information for use are mandated.
