Overview
ISO 11491:2017 - Implants for surgery - Determination of impact resistance of ceramic femoral heads for hip joint prostheses - specifies two alternative laboratory test methods to measure the (cyclic strength) of ceramic femoral heads used in hip prostheses. The standard is intended to evaluate how ceramic ball heads perform under dynamic impact loading and quasi‑static load‑release cycles, helping detect immediate fracture and subcritical crack growth that can lead to delayed failure.
