ISO 1216:2017 defines when boiled reproduction cork is considered to be commercially dry. ISO 1216:2017 specifies requirements for boiled reproduction cork covering when it is considered commercially dry, how it is graded by thickness, its visual classification, packing and marking of bales, and acceptable loss in transit. The standard is intended to ensure consistent measurement, packing and labelling practices for producers, traders and quality inspectors in the cork supply chain.

- Commercial dryness: cork is considered commercially dry when moisture content ≤ 14% (moisture determined per ISO 2386).
- Thickness measurement: thickness (without back) is measured as the average of four measurements taken at the ends of two straight segments passing through the cork centre in the tangential and axial directions. Irregularly thick zones shall not exceed 10% of total area.

- Extra thin: 14 < d ≤ 22 (sub‑grades 14–18 and 18–22)
- Thin: 22 < d ≤ 27
- Pint: 27 < d ≤ 32
- Quart: 32 < d ≤ 40
- Thick: 40 < d ≤ 54 (sub‑grades 40–45 and 45–54)
- Extra thick: d > 54
