This International Standard specifies a dynamic test method for mechanical hook-type connections and hook coupling devices, as well as a static test of their keeper plates. It is applicable to hooks meeting the requirements of ISO 6489-1 used on towing vehicles with an unladen mass of up to 10 t. Towing vehicles with a greater unladen mass are nevertheless treated as 10 t towing vehicles, especially with regard to their reference mass.

Two‑ram loading is permitted where single‑ram 45° application is impractical.

Acceptance criteria:

Visual and crack‑indication inspection (e.g., dye penetrant) for cracks and tears after testing.
The gap between keeper plate and hook shall not exceed 10 mm during tests.

Labeling and reporting:

Required label elements include manufacturer, identification number, reference mass and static vertical load.
Test report must record manufacturer, materials, vehicle makes/models, reference mass/S values used, and test results.
