Overview
ISO 12611:2004 specifies audio head-leader tones for the international exchange of 35 mm analogue magnetic film masters. The standard defines the type, level, duration and location of test signals recorded on the head leader of motion-picture audio masters covering configurations from two-track (on three-track format records) through six-track. It ensures consistent alignment, polarity checking and equalization when transferring, archiving or reproducing analogue magnetic film audio.

- Recording and labeling: head-leader tones shall be recorded on each roll of audio masters; track-location information must be printed on the outside of each container.

- Use X–Y oscilloscope displays and Lissajous patterns for azimuth, polarity, and channel matching checks.
