ISO 13064-1:2012 specifies test procedures for measuring the reference energy consumption and reference range of electric motorcycles and mopeds with only a traction battery(ies) as power source for vehicle propulsion.
Abstract
Overview - ISO 13064-1:2012 (Battery-electric mopeds and motorcycles)
ISO 13064-1:2012 specifies standardized test procedures to determine the reference energy consumption and reference range of battery-electric mopeds and motorcycles that use only traction battery(ies) for propulsion. The standard defines repeatable test sequences, charging procedures, measurement points and the formula for calculating reference energy consumption (C = E / d), enabling consistent lab and field evaluation of electric two-wheel vehicle performance.
Key technical topics and requirements
- Scope: Applies to battery-electric mopeds and motorcycles with traction batteries as the sole propulsion source.
- Test sequences: Defined driving cycles are given in Annex A (mopeds), Annex B (motorcycles) and a constant speed option in Annex C. Tests repeat prescribed cycles until the end-of-test criterion is met.
- Tolerances and timing:
- Speed tolerance ±2 km/h and time tolerance ±1 s; these are geometrically combined.
- One deviation up to 4 s allowed per drive cycle; total timeout must be reported.
- End-of-test criteria: Specified in the annexes or by on-board instrumentation indicating the driver should stop.
- Measurement parameters and accuracy (examples from Table 1):
- Time: ±0.1 s; Distance: ±0.1 %; Speed: ±1 %; Mass: ±0.5 %; Energy measurement to IEC class 0.2 S.
- Battery charging and conditioning:
- Batteries charged per manufacturer recommendation (normal overnight charging procedure described).
- End-of-charge determined by manufacturer instrumentation; charging time ≤ 12 h for end-of-charge indication.
- Recommended battery usage: preferably batteries with ≤ 50 charge/discharge cycles.
- Test conditions:
- Vehicle load, tyre pressure, lubrication and auxiliary systems specified.
- Ambient ranges: outdoor 5 °C–35 °C; indoor 20 °C–30 °C; atmospheric pressure 91–104 kPa; relative humidity
