ISO 14558:2016 specifies a method for determining the residual unsaturation in hydrogenated nitrile rubber (HNBR) by measuring the infrared (IR) absorbance of HNBR films cast from solution. Overview
ISO 14558:2016 specifies a standardized laboratory method to determine the residual unsaturation (remaining double bonds) in hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber (HNBR) using infrared (IR) spectroscopy. The method measures IR absorbance of HNBR films cast from solution (MEK) on KBr discs and uses characteristic absorbance bands to calculate the percentage of unsaturated butadiene remaining after hydrogenation. ISO 14558:2016 assumes experienced personnel and that spectrometer operation follows manufacturer instructions; it does not provide general IR instrument operating guidance.
