La présente Norme internationale définit les exigences et donne des recommandations relatives à la conception mécanique, à la sélection des matériaux, à la fabrication, au contrôle, aux essais et à la préparation pour l'expédition des échangeurs thermiques à plaques, parfois dénommés échangeurs thermiques à plaques et à bâti, destinés à être utilisés dans les industries du pétrole et du gaz naturel. La présente Norme internationale traite des échangeurs thermiques à plaques étanches, semi-soudées et soudées, délimitées par un bâti. Utilisé dans la présente Norme internationale, le terme «échangeurs thermiques» ou «échangeurs» inclut les refroidisseurs, réchauffeurs, condenseurs, évaporateurs et rebouilleurs.
