Overview
ISO 15732:2003 specifies a standardized test method - the Single-Edge-Precracked-Beam (SEPB) method - for measuring the fracture toughness of monolithic and whisker- or particulate-reinforced ceramics at room temperature. The standard defines the SEPB fracture toughness value K_Ipb, the specimen geometry and preparation, precrack generation, bending test procedures, validity checks and calculation/reporting rules. It excludes continuous-fiber‑reinforced ceramic composites.
